About the Platinum Britannia
The platinum Britannia series was first launched in 2017, and was an instant success. The Royal Mint decided to extend its range of the Britannia series to include platinum due to both the increased demand in platinum as an investment, and the sucess of the Britannia coin series, which is one of the best selling bullion coins in Europe.
The 1 Oz Platinum Britannia Coin Design
The 1 Ounce platinum Britannia coin features the same design as the gold and silver Britannia coins. The front of each coin features an image of Queen Elizabeth II, with the coin's face value of £100 GBP inscribed around the outside. This face value is in fact much lower than the coin's value based on its platinum content. However, it does mean the the coin is backed by the government of the UK to the value of £100. The reverse side of each coin features an image of Lady Britannia walking on the sea, with a trident in her right hand, and an olive branch and shield in the other. The shield features the Union Jack on it. These coins are all 999.5 platinum. The platinum Britannia coin is available in 1 oz and 1/10 oz sizes. The back of the coin features its year of minting, size, purity and metal type. The platinum Britannia is one of two platinum coins issued by the Royal Mint. The other is the Queen's Beasts, a series of ten coins, which is available in gold, silver and platinum. These coin are released semi-annually.
